Seattle Washington: A Tale of Aviation and Architecture

Seattle Washington is one of the United States most culturally enriched, and historical cities. It has touched many aspects of the Western American cultures bringing the cities popularity to a soaring high. Seattle was first formed in 1851 and known as New York. However after changing territorial legislative bodies the city was renamed Seattle and officially formed in 1869. After the city was officially formed it had over 2,000 residents.

Seattle began to boom in the 1900 and grow to over 240,000 residents within 40 years. In the 1909 Seattle decided to announce their great achievements as a city and threw their first International Fair. The fair was successful and encouraged more regular fairs as a way to generate more revenue for the city.

While Seattle Washington grew and expanded so did several of its small commercial companies including the Boeing Airplane Co which was founded in 1916. Expanding incredibly over time and going from 10 million dollars annually to 600 million dollars annually bringing in a large chunk of Seattle's revenue and impacting their economy greatly.

The Boeing Airplane Company

In early 1918 the World War 1 was already commencing and the city of Seattle was desperately attempting to make its valued contributions. Seattle's small airplane manufacturing company became a monument to aviation over the last 80 years. The Boeing Airplane Company started in 1916 by William Boeing.

The company first struggled but the drive and ambition of its creator kept the company growing largely for most of its early years. The company started creating small model airplanes and worked up to the Model -C which its first order for 50 was to the U.S. Navy in 1918 for pilots in World War 1 after which increased their number of employees on payroll from 28 to 337.

After World War 1 the Boeing Airplane Co was back in a bit of a slump and once again the innovation and creative thoughts of the company implemented their skills in a new way. The company began producing counter tops, dressers, and other furniture for a Corset Company, and Flat Bottom Sea boats. This maintained the company for a few more years.

The company has been the innovators for many other things including the first International Mail Delivery, and landed the first U.S. Contract for International Mail. The company's Mail plane design gave an interest to many countries by way of mail communication. The Boeing Airplane Company merged with 5 other Aviation companies and is now one of the largest in the World. It's still in power and still at the leading hub of Aviation in the World.

LC Smith Building

The LC Smith Building is another one of Seattle's pride and joy built in 1914. It was designed by gentlemen from New York named Lyman Cornelius Smith. While he did not survive until completion the 1 million dollar project was completed and opening day was July 3rd, 1914 bringing in over 4,000 people to see its opening including Smith's son.

The LC Smith Tower stood some 522 Foot and was compared to many wonderful buildings including the 942 foot Eiffel Tower, and even the Pyramid of Giza which only stands 476 Feet. The Smith Tower is still standing and was recently renovated to host the design of the original observation room a project that cost $28 million dollars.

The City of Seattle has a great many things to offer. Its rich history of Aviation and Culture has contributed to the United States history for the last 100 years, and continue to grow.
